Thompson Opens OB-GYN Practice in Geneva

PATIENT CARE

Thompson Health's New OB-GYN location opened in Geneva in late 2019 and got 2020 off to a busy start. In fact, despite the pandemic, the location was 96 percent to its goal for appointments through mid-June. Of those appointments, 10 percent were new patients.

Located near the intersection of Routes 5 and 20 with Pre-Emption Road, it is the fourth site for the Canandaigua Medical Group’s OB-GYN practice, which is affiliated with F.F. Thompson Hospital. There are locations in Canandaigua, Farmington and Victor as well.

The building, which includes an ultrasound suite, is where both Dr. Francis Finneran and certified nurse-midwife Samera Sorell see patients. The two also see patients at the Canandaigua location.

Both Finneran and Sorell deliver babies at Thompson’s Birthing Center, which holds Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care from The Joint Commission and is recognized by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield as a Blue Distinction® Center+ for Maternity Care.

With 10 birthing suites and an adjacent lactation suite, the Birthing Center for many years has had an overall breastfeeding rate that is among the highest in the region, and a caesarean rate among the lowest in the region.
