Visiting Hours at F.F. Thompson Hospital


  • Visiting hours are between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily. This includes our Birthing Center waiting room. 
  • M.M Ewing Continuing Care Center preferred visiting hours are between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily. 

Who can visit? 
  • At any given time, two visitors may be at a patient’s bedside. Please note, there are exceptions for admitted patients who are still boarding in the Emergency Department, as well as others as noted in the section below. 
  • All visitors must be 12 years old or older, with the exception of the Birthing Center (see below). 
  • Individuals who are sick or have symptoms of illness should refrain from visiting until well
Exceptions

 

  • Patients on transmission-based precautions for known/suspected illness: Visitors must wear personal protective equipment. 

  • Patients with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, as well as patients with cognitive impairments (including dementia), may designate at least one support person to remain with them through their hospitalization. Additional visitors may also be with the patient during designated visiting hours. 

  • Emergency Department Patients:

    • One visitor at a time is permitted to be with the patient. However, the visitor does not have to be the same person; other designated individuals can visit with the patient throughout the duration of the stay, one at a time. If the waiting room is too busy, visitors may be asked to leave. 
    • If the patient is admitted to the hospital, but is still in the ED waiting for a bed, hospital visitation and exception guidelines will be followed. 
    • Pediatric patients in the Emergency Department may have two parents/guardians present.
       
  • Birthing Center Patients:
    • During triage/evaluation, two support people including doula (designated by the patient) are permitted bedside. 
    • No one under 18 is allowed to visit unless they are a sibling of the newborn and accompanied by a supervising adult. 
    • All visitors must show identification at the hospital lobby Information Desk and receive a visitor’s badge prior to being allowed on the unit. If the support person arrives after 8 p.m., enter via the Emergency Department and provide identification at the ED desk. 
    • Surgical/C-Section Patients: two persons pre-op and postoperatively until determined by the team to support newborn/ maternal transition. One of the two persons will be permitted into the OR per maternal choice. 
    • Following delivery (postpartum), visitation may occur between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Number of visitors is unlimited. Only up to four visitors (designated by the patient) are allowed at the bedside. 
       
  • End-of-Life Patients: Two visitors at a time are permitted to be with the patient. Additional exceptions may be made; ask the unit staff. 
     
  • Surgical and Ambulatory Procedure Patients: Prior to surgery, one support person and one visitor may be at patient’s bedside. During surgery, visitor/support person may stay in the waiting room until the procedure is completed or patient is discharged. 
     
  • Inpatient Pediatric Patients: Two designated individuals during visiting hours. For overnight guidelines, ask the unit staff. 
     
  • Please note any aggressive or disruptive behavior by anyone will not be tolerated. 
Parking
  • Free parking is available for patients and visitors in designated parking lots at all entrances of the facility.
  • Patients needing emergency care can be dropped off and picked up using the driveway in front of the Emergency Department. The main entrance driveway is for patients being dropped off and patients being discharged only. Please do not leave your car unattended in any of the driveways.
